Aggregations

Simplified guide that explains the complexity of tag data formation presenting on a data cluster

How data aggregation works in Insight Data Module?

In its simplest form, Insight sensor data aggregation is the process of compiling large amounts of sensor information data from the database and organizing it into a more consumable and comprehensive medium. Data aggregation is used from pivot tables to data lakes, to summarize information and make conclusions based on data-rich findings within Insight Dashboards, Reports and Alarms. The use case of Insight data aggregation is industry-agnostic and is often critical to the success and continuous improvement of organizational operations across the world.

Type of Aggregations used in Insight

Smart Aggregations

Special kinds of sensor data aggregation can be selected in Insight charts. This type of aggregation aims to provide the consumer with visually accurate data to the degree that corresponds with the available space on the screen.

The data points returned by smart aggregation usually have different timestamps compared to other aggregation types. As a consequence, hovering over a line in the graph won’t usually show the values for both smart aggregation and the rest of the aggregation points. To work around this, if it is detected that the backend returned a mix of aggregation types that includes smart aggregation, it will take the group that has fewer points and move those points to their nearest matching timestamp from the other group.

Time Series-Based Aggregations

These types of aggregate changes in indicators into discrete time intervals. These aggregations can make trends more easily visible, or help track progress against a target.
